Frequently Asked Questions

How long is the journey?

The journey between Stanhope and Bishop Auckland takes 55 minutes, a journey between Stanhope and Wolsingham will take 20 minutes and a trip between Stanhope and Witton-le-Wear is 40 minutes. A full line return trip from Stanhope to Bishop Auckland will take just over two hours.

Is there disabled access?

There are disabled car parking spaces at Stanhope, Frosterley and Wolsingham stations. There are disabled toilet facilities at Stanhope Station. A ramp is available for wheelchair access to the train at all stations. Our staff are always happy to help.

Are dogs allowed?

Yes, but please don't allow them on the seats onboard the trains or station benches.

Are there group fares available?

Yes, special rates will be offered for pre-booked groups and for school or club visits. Please contact the Railway beforehand via the Contact Us page.

Are there family fares available?

Yes there are. A family return ticket between Stanhope and Wolsingham will cost £26.00 for 2 adults and up to 3 children (aged 5 to 15 years). Full details of all our fares can be found on the Fares page.

Are there toilet facilities?

There are toilets at Stanhope Station. There are currently no toilets onboard the train or at the other stations.

Are there refreshment facilities?

Yes, the 'Platform One' café at Stanhope Station is open from 10am to 4pm on Wednesdays to Sundays.
