​Normally the passenger service trains operate between Stanhope and Bishop Auckland with intermediate stations at Frosterley, Kingfisher Halt, Wolsingham and Witton-le-Wear. Other special services and excursions may operate to and from either Bishop Auckland or Stanhope.

Travelling by Car, Bike or Foot

Bishop Auckland West Station

Bishop Auckland West is the terminus station at the eastern end of the Weardale Railway line. There is limited parking at the adjacent main Network Rail station. Other car parks are available in the town centre. There are no facilities at this station. Facilities are available at the Network Rail station.

Stanhope Station

This is the principal station on the Weardale Railway. The station and free car park open half an hour before the first train. Disabled car parking spaces available. The gift shop and café open on operating days. Toilets including disabled and baby change facilities are available. No overnight parking.

Wolsingham Station

​

Platform and car park open when trains are running with disabled car parking spaces available. There are no toilet facilities at this station. No overnight parking. Please pay on the train.

Frosterley Station

​

The rebuilt platform and the small car park are always open (but there is no overnight parking). Disabled car parking spaces available.  There is no station office or other facilities.

Witton-le-Wear Station

​

No ticket office or facilities. Platform accessible from roadside drop off area, but no parking at the station itself. Roadside parking is usually available in the nearby village. Please pay on the train.

Kingfisher Halt

​

​

This is a request stop for residents of the nearby caravan parks and for walkers on the Weardale Way. The road approach is private and there is no parking nearby.

Travelling by Public Transport

Bishop Auckland by Rail

​

There is a regular hourly service (weekdays and Sundays) from the east coast mainline at Darlington to the Network Rail station at Bishop Auckland. Times are available here. Follow the signs to the adjacent Weardale Railway platform.

Bishop Auckland by Bus

​

There are frequent daily bus services from all the main population centres in County Durham and Tyneside. The bus station is a 12 minute walk from the railway station, however several of the bus routes pass close to the station. Details of routes, times and maps can be found here.

Stanhope, Wolsingham or Frosterley by Bus (Monday to Saturday)

​

The bus timetable from Bishop Auckland to Wolsingham and Stanhope via Crook can be accessed here. There is an approximately hourly service on Weekdays. Please note there is no Sunday service. There are also connecting bus services from Durham City to  both Crook and Bishop Auckland.
