The photographs below were taken earlier this month and show the new tarmac path, fencing and safety railings substantially complete between the two stations at Bishop Auckland. The work was completed by contractors CML on behalf of Network Rail in collaboration with the Bishop Line Community Rail Partnership and Weardale Railway Limited.
The 150 metre path between the Network Rail station and the Weardale Railway's Bishop Auckland West platform, will massively reduce the walking time between the two stations and is made easier by the installation of disability compliant ramps at each end.
There are a few little jobs remaining to finish the project, though the path itself is now complete and will be ready for use when trains return to Bishop Auckland in early 2023.
